Welcome

Uplands are, by definition, multifunctional environments. In other words, they support a range of activities based on the natural resource base. These can complement or conflict with each other. Many uplands are also populated by dispersed, sparse communities which make mainstream solutions to sustainable development difficult to achieve. ICU’s ethos is to provide integrated sustainable resource management solutions that can be implemented effectively in these situations.

Therefore, Our Mission is to support the provision of viable uplands environmentally, economically and socially through:
  • Applied high quality research
  • Timely professional development
  • Relevant vocational training

ICU’s work currently focuses on three themes to achieve this:
