Expeditions run by the School of Outdoor Studies in 2009

Below is a list of expeditions available through the School of Outdoor Studies.

Applicants will be required to register as students and sign up to the relevant expedition module as a prerequisite to participation.

Applicants can undertake these expeditions at HE level 4 (Reflections|), 5 (Characterstics|) or 6 (Reviewing|)

Gozo Scuba Diving Expedition 2009:  4th – 11th April 2009


Image of a fish seen on the diving expedition An expedition to the island of Gozo, just off Malta, to either learn to dive or develop existing scuba skills. From our base in the town of Marsalforn people new to scuba diving will achieve their PADI open water certification as part of the expedition. There is also some scope for qualified divers to advance their skills and certification. Participants will be signed up to level 4,5 or 6 of the expedition enhancement modules.

Cost:  £573 for the expedition (not including food / drink)
          £210 for the module* (members of U of C receive a discounted rate)

Climbing in the USA -  30th March – 17th April 2009 (tbc)


USA climbing trip A 19 day expedition to the USA, spending time climbing at Joshua Tree and Red Rocks.  We will be flying into Los Angeles, hiring vehicles and driving to Joshua Tree where we will spend a week climbing on amazing granite tors in the desert. We will than move to Las Vegas, where we have a night in a motel, before moving just 13 miles up the road to spend another week climbing on the sandstone towers and cliffs of Red Rocks.  There will be chance, for those who would like to go on an optional ‘road –trip’, to visit the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon and Zion NP. Participants will be signed up to level 4, 5 or 6 of the expedition enhancement modules.

Cost:  £1000 for the expedition (not including food / drink)
          £210 for the module* (members of U of C receive a discounted rate)

* For applicants to the enhancement modules certain criteria in relation to adequate experience and/or qualifications may be required. All applicants will be appraised on a case by case basis, as relevant experience and qualification are so variable. Any queries or guidance on levels can be obtained by contacting us.
