The university is supporting Cumbria Constabulary in an initiative to encourage more people to volunteer as special constables. If you would like to make the most of your spare time, enhance your skills and prospects and make a real difference in your community, then volunteering as a Special may be just the job!
Duties can include patrolling on foot or in vehicles, crime prevention work, schools liaison and public nuisance patrols, policing county shows and events, crowd control at football and rugby matches, traffic duty and community policing. As a Special, you would be an important link between the police and the community.
There are over 14,000 of these extraordinary people in the country, recruited locally by all 43 police forces in England and Wales. More information can be found at www.cumbria.police.uk
