Forestry courses at the University of Cumbria

Each of our courses is designed to provide a diverse range of national and international students with the skills to enable them to contribute to the future sustainable management of our forests in their future forestry careers.

Undergraduate forestry courses

BSc (Hons) Forest and Woodland Management

Where better to study than the National School of Forestry on our flagship course? Our location is ideal for studying forests and woodlands and this degree prepares you for a career in forest and woodland management in the UK and overseas.

BSc (Hons) Forestry and Woodland Conservation

This course is designed to give you a broad understanding of the many issues surrounding the conservation of forests and woodlands at home and overseas.

FdSc Forestry - Full time / Part time

This vocational course helps you develop specialist knowledge, understanding and skills in forestry. It is suited to new entrants to forestry or mid-career foresters wanting to up-skill.

BSc (Hons) Forestry Top-up - Full time / Distance learning

If you have a HND or foundation degree in forestry (or an equivalent qualification) this course enables you to obtain a BSc (Hons) degree in Forestry by one years study full-time or two year study by distance learning.

Postgraduate forestry courses

Forest Ecosystem Management - Full time / Part time / Distance Learning

The course aims to give you a thorough grounding in the disciplines needed by a professional forester, together with an appreciation of the wider issues facing all natural resource managers.

Short forestry courses

Forest Schools Practice

This course will include plenty of practical skills, and students will be expected to learn to use and maintain tools such as billhooks, bow saws, axes and pen knives. Most of the course will be held in the outdoors in a woodland setting with the use of a range of outdoor species.
