Research and scholarship activity underpins our core purpose which is to advance educational knowledge and practice. It informs our teaching and engagement with employers and practitioners.

Research Activity

The scope of our research activity includes:

  • Theoretically informed research in teaching, learning and assessment across the range of formal and informal educational settings, from early years through to adult, which has impact on policy and practice at national and international levels.
  • Research that critically engages with wider socio-economic and political issues and the implications for theory, policy, social justice and practice in formal and informal education and community professional fields.
  • Research that aspires to be collaborative, interdisciplinary, participatory and in partnership across institutional and community boundaries.

Our academics have expertise and special interests across early years, primary, secondary, informal, adult, further and higher education as well as in youth and community work. We are able to provide consultancy, facilitation of professional development and support for school and service improvement projects.
