Short Course Subject Knowledge Enhancement: ICT (2 weeks)

-
Duration Short course
-
Mode of study Short course

Start date July 2012
Why study with us?
This course enhances the subject knowledge of students who are embarking on PGCE courses starting in September of the same year.
Graduates following this route will typically need to brush up on their ICT theory/skills or may need to reconnect their ICT subject knowledge to the school curriculum before commencing an ICT PGCE or GTP. Participants will typically have studied ICT from an advanced perspective usually demonstrated by a degree with a significant proportion of ICT or related content. They may benefit from the booster course as some time may have elapsed following completion of advanced study and they need to work on ICT skills. They may conversely need to access the booster course following recent study of ICT at an advanced level and would benefit from the booster course in order to refocus upon the subject knowledge needed to teach school ICT.
Experienced Faculty of Education tutors will be on hand to support participants throughout the course, with face-to-face tuition and via Blackboard VLE.
Course Summary
You will be introduced to subject knowledge audit tools and will be supported to develop a plan for developing your subject knowledge. The programme will enable you to develop your understanding of school curriculum ICT based around the national curriculum for ICT. You will be expected to select appropriate areas to focus upon during independent study time and so elements of the course content will be tailored to need.
The course is delivered using a blended learning approach with three contact days held at our Bowerham Road, Lancaster Campus, providing the opportunity to work with other students and tutors on task that enable you to deepen your understanding.
