The Community Specialist Practice programme will provide you with greater knowledge and skills to become a confident and competent Specialist Practitioner within District Nursing. You will have the opportunity and be encouraged to think, read and write critically around contemporary issues around District Nursing and how research can influence innovative practice. By combining the theory you have learned within university and the skills you have developed within practice you will be successful in qualifying as a Specialist Practitioner within District Nursing.

This specialised programme is taught by experts in their field, both at the university and in clinical settings, with many years of experience in developing specialist practitioners in district nursing. We have excellent working relationships with our Partner Trusts, who provide a supportive learning environment in which you can work in practice to advance your knowledge and skills around District Nursing.

What can this course lead to?

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma: Community Specialist Practice, you will be eligible to apply to be recorded on the NMC Nursing register in your named pathway of District Nursing. On successful completion of HPHN 9001 Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribing you can apply to record this qualification as a V100 Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber on the NMC nurse register.

This qualification will enable you to work as a District Nurse and progress to work as a Team Leader of a District Nursing team.

As well as team leaders, graduates from this course have gone on to become district nursing team sisters and research nurses; some have joined rapid response or palliative care teams; some have even risen to managerial positions.
