This module is drawn from the Advanced Practice in Occupational Therapy programme. The aim of the module is to critically evaluate current occupational therapy theory, frames of reference and models of practice. You will explore in depth and critically analyse the impact of professional theories on occupational therapy practice and their relevance to interprofessional working.

Course Summary

Occupational therapy philosophy; theoretical perspectives of occupation and occupational therapy; conceptual and practice models of occupational therapy; occupational therapy frames of reference, approaches; application of scholarship to practice; creative use of theory in decision making; use of theory to guide service planning and development; philosophy and theory of client centred practice; influence of professional theory on interdisciplinary working.

Student Work

The assessment method for this module will be a 4,500 word critical essay on theoretical perspectives in occupational therapy.
