Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module you will be able to:
1. Discuss the assessment of common childhood illnesses and their potential differential diagnoses;
2. Critically evaluate appropriate investigations which will assist the diagnostic process;
3. Critically review the management of common childhood illnesses;
4. Discuss the involvement of the family in the care of the child;
5. Critically reflect upon the rights of the child when they are a patient.

1. Common childhood infectious diseases (e.g. measles, chickenpox)
2. Gastrointestinal disorders
3. Exanthema’s & skin lesions
4. Respiratory & Cardiac disorders (e.g. bronchiolitis, congenital heart defects)
5. ENT disorders (e.g. otitis media, URTI’s)
6. Mental health and behavioural problems
7. Legal issues & Legislation.
8. Musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. minor injuries)
9. Sexual health
