This module is aimed to prepare you for your imminent entry into membership of the profession of Physiotherapy at Masters level. To promote an appropriate level of personal and professional autonomy enabling you to respond effectively to the changing environment of health provision both within the public and private sectors.

Course Summary

Current government policy and how it affects the delivery of healthcare messages in both public and private sector. Theories of management styles, theories of change, organisational structures, the learning organisation and change. Dealing with stress at work, management and prioritisation of workloads. Core professional standards and the roles of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy  and Health Professions Council, KSF’s. Legal issues related to practice, the expert witness etc. Development of  Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) in preparation for employment. post. How to produce a business plan and market your skills

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Critically analyse how organisational structure and current government policy influence health care delivery.
  • Reflect critically the importance of quality as a concept in the delivery of Health and Social Services
  • Critically evaluate how management theory influences approaches to team building, prioritisation, motivation, managing change and developing a business
  • Critically debate the role of the professional and statutory organisations in the profession of Physiotherapy. Integrating and synthesising knowledge of medico-legal requirements, ethics and quality assurance issues in relation to professional practice.
  • Formulate and defend their personal development plan for the immediate post qualification period using evidence from the NHS Knowledge Skills Frameworks (KSF) for requirements of level 5 and 6 posts.
