What can this course lead to?

English student Brantwood 2

This flexible subject opens up a range of careers demanding high-level analytical, interpretative, written and oral communication skills. Many English graduates use their degree as the basis for further study and training in order to pursue high level ‘graduate‘ work- in 2009, 30% of 2008 English graduates were doing this.

A 2003 survey of career paths three years after graduation showed that English graduates were not only more successful at going on to professional and managerial jobs than the average graduate, but were more successful in this than Business Studies graduates.

Resources and facilities

English Student Brantwood 4

One of our most important resources is our proximity to the Lake District, a beautiful part of England with many literary points of interest.

There are both compulsory and optional field trips to sites connected with particular writers and local literary heritage - these include Dove Cottage, Grasmere home of poet William Wordsworth, and Brantwood, the home of Victorian writer and critic John Ruskin.
