Campus Life at Newton Rigg
Students' Union (SU)
Whether you choose to live on campus or in town, the Students' Union is at the heart of campus life.
We offer a range of facilities and activities; come along and see us at the freshers' fair for further information. Within hours of arriving on campus you'll be making friends and finding out even more about student life. We also have an advice centre, where staff can help with any problems whether financial, academic or health-related. The Union staff office is upstairs in the Eskdale building.
The Gincase is at the heart and soul of campus life. Events range from themed events, live bands and DJs, to jackpot quiz nights. Located in the middle of the campus, we have a garden area with patio heaters and BBQ facilities as well as a dedicated games room for use throughout the day and night. An entertainments committee made up of students puts the events programme together, so if you want something specific, why not get yourself on the committee and help organise it!
A safety bus provides free transport between Penrith and the campus each Tuesday and Thursday evening.

The campus is part of the University of Cumbria and students enjoy many of the same benefits as the higher education (undergraduate) students. The University of Cumbria Students' Union aims to provide positive and effective representation, high-quality support and services, value for money and exciting opportunities to enrich the student experience.
Check out the Gincase theme night on Tuesdays!
Extra activities
We think it's important that you get involved in activities other than your course while you are on campus. It's the best way to make friends, develop new skills and have more fun. There are loads of things you can do - from playing sport to voluntary work, music, art, getting more qualifications - the list is endless. Regular trips are organised off campus -cinema visits, bowling, Laserquest and other events and activities. We also have an active Duke of Edinburgh Award group and many students become involved in voluntary activities in the local community. We encourage our students to take part in planning and organising activities, as well as coming up with the ideas.
As a student at the Newton Rigg campus, Penrith you have access to lots of information, advice and guidance from a group of professional staff.
