Centre for the Development of Learning and Teaching
The Centre for the Development of Learning and Teaching (CDLT) offers a range of activities and services to support the development of good practice and innovation in Learning and Teaching. CDLT's mission is to provide a service to all staff involved in teaching and the support of learning.
In the University of Cumbria, CDLT puts a stronger focus on team and course development rather than an extensive workshop programme and will continue to strengthen partnership working with both services and faculties. We are particularly keen to offer information, consultancy and training to teams of staff, for example when they are designing a new or revised course, or introducing new teaching methods. If you have any query related to teaching and learning, please feel free to contact us about what you are doing and the support you require.
Please contact CDLT@cumbria.ac.uk| (Extension 2738 (external 01524 590861) or 2734 (external 01524 590860) in the first instance. We very much look forward to working with you.

You show substantial evidence of excellent student-centred pedagogy, based on soundly-researched evidence, and delivered in flexible and distributed ways; you demonstrate a significant contribution to the development of teaching and learning within your School and across the institution more widely, including through your contribution to CDLT; your research, both your personal work and in collaboration with colleagues within the University of Cumbria and in other UK HEIs, has produced tangible outcomes of benefit to students and colleagues; your initiative in setting up and co-ordinating the Cumbria Study of Higher Education Network demonstrates leadership in enquiry and establishing a sound basis for practice as HE professionals.
Anne Gager
You showed clearly the extent to which you influence and inspire students and also how you similarly inspire colleagues and partners in schools and elsewhere to develop provision in your specialist area; you demonstrated how an enquiring and reflective approach underpins your practice and that you are actively contributing to research and scholarship in your field; your submission also demonstrated admirable generosity and collegiality in the way you acknowledged that in order to lead and implement developments it is essential to have highly committed and able colleagues.

There was clear evidence of team work across the faculty and of partnership with a range of agencies and institutions beyond the University; the range and diversity of evidence of excellence was very impressive and it was clear that this was informed by scholarly activity and imaginative experimentation. Although there was no student feedback or evaluation presented it was felt that there was sufficient evidence from other sources to conclude that the team was having a very positive effect on the student experience.

The panel was very impressed by the case made: the partnership with students clearly has beneficial effects for both first and second year students; this initiative has addressed some of the complexities of induction and retention of first year students; you are developing the PASS tutors’ personal and professional skills; and the work demonstrates the strength of partnerships between staff and students and between staff in faculties and services. It was felt that the work of the team was exemplary and should be disseminated as widely as possible within the institution.
