As an International student at the University of Cumbria we want you to be able to make the most of your time with us, and we want you to join the university community - share your views, culture, foods and language. Make sure we know who you are and that you are aware of the activities that we offer throughout the year to familiarise you with British culture and society, and to give you the opportunity to share your culture with other students and staff.
All international (EEA and overseas) students accepting a place at the University of Cumbria should read the pre-arrival information provided by the International Partnerships Office and the Admissions team before finalising your plans to come to the UK, as there are many factors which you need to consider.
Once you arrive at the University, Learning, Information and Student Services (LISS) staff will become your point of contact if you have any queries or concerns. For example, if you need information and guidance for:
-
Visa and immigration
-
Your finances (during your time in the UK)
-
How to obtain an National Insurance number
-
Working in the UK during and/or after your studies
-

-
How to get involved with local volunteer and/or community groups
-

... and much more, then come and talk to us!
Coming to the UK as a student can open up a whole new world, full of unique opportunities, memorable moments and life-changing experiences. It can also be a challenge trying to understand how the UK education system works, learning how British people interact and communicate with each other, and adapting to life in the UK whilst away from family and friends and familiar surroundings. We are committed to ensuring your experience is a positive one, and that you successfully continue your learning experience with us, whilst becoming engaged fully in university life during your time with us.
We hope to provide as much information that you may require during studies in the UK, covering topics such as fee status assessment; what you need to do before you leave your country; information regarding living in the UK; bursaries and bank accounts; working in the UK; doctors and dentists; visa extension; studying in the UK; Plagiarism; cost of living in the UK; what to bring with you; cultural awareness; registration and orientation.
The information is to help you throughout your studies at the University of Cumbria. Please take some time to read the information, download the guides and visit the linked websites all of which are designed to answer your queries, so do refer back to these pages as the Semesters progress.
I hope you find the pages within this section informative and interesting. Good luck with your studies.
