EU students
From September 2012, we will charge £7,850* per year tuition fees for our HEFCE funded undergraduate honours degree courses and £6,000 for foundation degree courses. For more information on postgraduate fees, visit the postgraduate finance page.
*We have agreed to set fees at £9,000 for full-time teacher training courses from 2012. Historically the cost of delivering teacher training courses is higher due to the intense nature of the course and the cost of placements and payments to schools.
Tuition fee loan
Students from the EU can borrow a loan for tuition fees up to the maximum amount charged.
This loan is paid direct to the University of Cumbria in two instalments in February and May. If you borrow the loan you do not need to pay anything at Registration. Simply bring along your letter from the Student Loans Company to show that you are borrowing the loan.
The loan can be repaid from the April after graduation when you are earning above £21,000 or the equivalent in your home EU country. Should you be earning less than this amount, then you can put your payments on hold. The Student Loans Company will write to you following graduation to ask about your employment and you should respond to this letter.
Please note that the government charges a small amount of interest on the loan which means that it is non-profit making for them but gives you the opportunity to study now and pay later. The interest rates can be found on the Student Loans Company website.
If you are paying your own fees you may pay by instalment.

Living costs help
The UK government does not provide any student loans or grants for EU students for their living costs. However, you may be able to apply for a grant to study in England from the Education Department within your own government. Please check in your home country to see if you are eligible.
