Search for relevant articles across all journals
Journals A to Z title list (on and off campus)
To find journal articles on a particular subject use the journal collections. These are electronic indexes of published articles that allow you to search a huge number of journals in one go. These journal collections can be found on the
eresources page. Collections are available for most subject areas and LISS gives you access to some of the biggest and best, for example Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, ScienceDirect and Web of Knowledge. You can find out which databases are available for your discipline by going to your Resources subject page or by selecting your subject area from the drop-down menu on the
eresources page. You can also use
Quest - an easy to use powerful discovery service that searches the University's journal collections, bibliographic databases and library catalogue from one search box.
Some collections hold full-text articles so you can read the article straight away, save it to a

local file for future use or print it out, within copyright regulations. Others hold bibliographic references only and you will need to check the journals list to see whether LISS subscribes to the journal, either in print or online. Some of the eresources are freely available online but most are subscribed to by the University and can only be accessed by logging in with your University
username and password.
LISS subscribes to a wide range of printed and electronic journals. A full list of these is available in the journals list.
To check whether you can access the full text of an article, enter the JOURNAL title in the search box. If we hold the journal the record will display where it is held. This might be in Print journals at University of Cumbria Libraries or in electronic format within an online journals collection such as Academic Search Complete.
Online – Select the journal collection that holds the year of publication you want. This will take you to the journal home page where you can locate all the journal issues, find the one you need and view the full text. You will be able to print or save the article but please note that the same copyright regulations apply for electronic journals.
Print – Follow the print journals link to the catalogue where you can view the holdings to see which years are held in which library. All print journals are for reference only and are shelved in alphabetical order according to the journal title, apart from the CWAAS collection in the Brampton Road library, which is shelved in Dewey classification order. Any photocopies made must conform to the copyright regulations. Notices are displayed next to the photocopiers explaining what material may legally be copied under the Library's licence and which works are excluded. LISS does not accept responsibility if any user has action taken against them by the Copyright Licensing Agency for breach of copyright.
If you want an article from a journal that is only held in print format at another campus library, you can request a copy using an Intersite journal article request form. Print off the form and fill in all the details - the form must be signed. You can then post the form or hand it in at your local library. A photocopy will be made for you and sent to your home library. You will be charged for the cost of the photocopying, with a minimum charge of 50p.
The A to Z journal list does NOT allow you to search for relevant articles, only for journal titles. To search for journal articles on a specific topic you will need to use the journal collections, which will enable you to search the content of many journals at once.
If LISS does not subscribe to the journal you need, you can request a photocopy of the article from the British Library at a cost of £3.00 per article (for students). Forms are available at the service desks or you can print off a copy from here - Interlibrary loan request form. Fill in all the details - the form must be signed - and hand in the form at your local library service desk with the payment.
