Learning advisers:

  • identify with you priority areas for development
  • offer advice and guidance, and suggest tips and strategies for effective learning and assessment submissions
  • enable you to develop referencing, editing and proofreading skills. To comply with  academic regulations, advisers are not able to proofread or edit your work, or check through complete bibliographies or reference lists
  • usually concentrate their feedback on approximately 500 words of draft text in any piece of work; more extensive input from advisers into a piece of assessed work would go against academic regulations regarding plagiarism
  • focus their advice on effective learning and study strategies; subject content guidance should be sought through programme or module tutors
  • help you understand the grading criteria applied at the appropriate level, but advisers are not able to suggest grading of an assignment. Advice about grading should be sought from programme or module tutors
