Sports and Fitness
The Lancaster campus sports complex and gym is definitely the place to be if you are looking to get involved in sports.
The university offers men and women’s football, rugby and hockey. Men’s badminton, men’s basketball and women’s netball all have teams in the BUCS university leagues.
For those looking to be involved in university sport but not necessarily competing, Lancaster has an abundance of clubs with swimming and water polo, trampolining, volleyball, and karate. There are also other keep fit groups such as cheerleading, dance and salsa.
Stuart Glover, Sport and Physical Development Officer at Lancaster City Council, encourages students to get involved with community clubs across the city.
“The Lancaster district has a vibrant sporting community with lots of first class sporting facilities to use. Just get in contact with the council as we offer a signposting service pointing people in the right direction.”
Rugby is very popular in Lancaster with the Vale of Lune club offering plenty of opportunities for both men and women to play the sport.
General fitness
There are a range of fitness classes, including Zumba, on campus. These are great for keeping fit and healthy, as well as making friends and having fun.
There are two large swimming pools close to the city centre, at Lancaster University and Salt Ayre (Morecambe).
Morecambe prom provides great scenery for a run - and it's worth stopping off at the Breeze Café for a tea and cake reward!
