Ofsted and Equality
Ofsted inspection 2010
The university has been graded as good with outstanding features by Ofsted.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Sam Twiselton said: ‘As the largest provider of ITE in the country, we were delighted to be singled out for our 'personal touch' and for the high quality of the pastoral support we offer our students. It shows how deeply we value each of our students as individuals as we help them to excel as the next generation of teachers."
Other strengths identified within the report included ‘the strong, determined leadership within the faculty’ and the positive and creative ways in which change is embraced. Dr Twiselton also welcomed the 'strong commitment to the University of Cumbria' shown by partnership schools which is also highlighted as a strength in the report.
Much was made within the report of how the university works to meet local employment needs both in the North West and in Tower Hamlets. Our London site was identified as a clear strength of the provision and secondary MFL (modern foreign languages) and the primary SEN (special education needs) specialism were also seen as particular strengths.
