Climate change is perhaps the biggest challenge facing humanity and the planet in the 21st Century. It is a subject that will impact all of our lives, and is an issue we all have strong feelings about. We know the drivers of recent climate change, we have a good idea of what our climate futures will be to 2100 and beyond, and we also know how to ‘solve’ climate change. However, why have we not solved the challenge posed by climate change?
In this masterclass we will introduce the idea of climate change as a ‘wicked’ problem, examining the science, the politics and the psychology of climate change to try and understand why it is so difficult to solve. We will also explore how we can move from contributing to the problem towards becoming part of a solution to the wicked problem of climate change.
