Careers and Employability Conferences Inspire Next Generation of Teachers

Careers and Employability Conferences Inspire Next Generation of Teachers name

Over the last few months, the Careers and Employability service at the University of Cumbria has arranged conference days for the Education students based at our London campus. These events have included seminars and workshops from local and national organisations, including Newham Partnership Working, Prospero and the NASUWT. Students have received advice on searching and applying for their first teaching posts, writing personal statements, and how to excel at their interviews.

As part of these events, an employer fair was hosted at the London campus in December, with just under a hundred students attending a very busy event. Representatives from London boroughs, schools and agencies were in attendance, offering opportunities to University of Cumbria students in teaching and other areas related to education. One student says “the careers fair was a great opportunity to look at all aspects of teaching and how trainee teachers have many options”.

Students have been inspired by the events to embark upon their career journeys, saying that their confidence in applying for opportunities has been improved, and that it had helped them to calm their interview nerves, by knowing what to expect from the process.

The Careers and Employability service at the University of Cumbria offers information, advice and guidance to all students for up to 3 years after graduation. Graduates can register on My Career Enriched to access event search, appointment booking, and job vacancies. There is also lots of information in the newly updated ‘Graduate Success Guide’, available at https://www.cumbria.ac.uk/graduates/
