About Our School

Kirkbie Kendal School (KKS) is a popular and successful 11-18 mixed comprehensive school with approximately 1000 students on roll, 150 in the Sixth Form. The students are very welcoming, friendly and outgoing.

Since 2011 the school has worked in partnership with the University of Cumbria providing a unique school-based PGCE course. The school has an 'outstanding' grade PE subject inspection from Ofsted (2011) and the university has an excellent reputation for teacher-training.

The school is part of a teaching school alliance, the South Lakes Federation (lead school Queen Elizabeth School). We work in partnership and collaborate closely to maximise the potential of all the students, staff and trainee teachers in all of our schools.

The school is firmly committed to sustain further improvements and excellent professional opportunities exist within the school and beyond. We collaborate with all local secondary schools as a member of the ‘South Lakes Federation’ teaching alliance. This includes sharing good practice and offering continuing professional development opportunities.

KKS is located at the southern end of the market town of Kendal. Situated at the Gateway to the Lake District, it is only six miles from junction 36 of the M6 Motorway and seven miles from the sea. Oxenholme Lake District main line west coast station is only a mile from the school’s campus.

Kendal is a lovely area in which to live and work. In addition to close proximity to the Lake District, we are also on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales national park. Kendal is a fine market town, with a thriving Arts, Sports and Social Scene. Nearby Lancaster is a busy university city.
