Discover what life was like during the 1950s at Charlotte Mason College

By 1950 the teaching practice for Charlotte Mason College students had expanded beyond the campus practicing school, housed in the Beehive, and students were out in the schools of Westmorland learning their trade.

In 1954 Mary Hardcastle was appointed to principal.

In 1955 Elsie Kitching died, she had been Charlotte Mason’s loyal servant, companion and friend, living with her on campus in Scale How for thirty years. Elsie or ‘Kit Kit’ as she was known by Miss Mason was buried at the foot of Charlotte’s grave.

If you can add to our 1950s memories we would love to hear from you, email alumni@cumbria.ac.uk
