ADVICE FOR POTENTIAL STUDENTS
A website and prospectus can only give you so much information and, let’s face it, we’re biased - we love what we do, we love our students and we love where we work! The whole purpose of this site is to tell you what a great place Cumbria is and why you should want to study with us. However, only you can decide if it really is the right choice for you. We recommend that all applicants visit before choosing to study with us, but if that’s impossible, make sure your choice is informed by finding out as much as you can about us before applying. Of course, the same goes for any other course at any other University too.

INTERVIEWS
Applications to the course should be made through the UCAS system.

All UK applicants will be offered an interview. If you live overseas and travel isn't an option, you'll be asked to send a digital portfolio of your work, followed up by a telephone interview.
We make our interviews as informal, interesting and fun as possible. You'll have time to see where you'll study and the resources available to you; meet and talk with students already on the course as well as tutors, student services and student union representatives.
Remember that you’re in a competitive situation – unfortunately we don’t have enough places to offer all potential students a place on the course. Last year we had approximately two applicants for every place we offered.
Wherever you're from, we're looking for lively individuals who love a challenge, are committed to the subject and can communicate their passion at interview.

PORTFOLIOS
You'll need to bring along a portfolio of recent work that shows the range of your practical skills and your ability to explore and communicate through a variety of media. Remember, graphic design is about ideas and creative problem solving not just about being able to use Photoshop, so as well as any finished design, artwork or photography we love to see initial drawings, roughs and development sheets too.
Usually you won't be seen with your portfolio - we'll have looked through it beforehand.
Although your work is really important it's you we really want to meet and talk to - we offer places to people not portfolios! Your success will be founded on your passion and commitment and that's what we really want to see.
We don't offer places to people we've never met or spoken to based solely on their qualifications, and we hope you'll understand why. Besides, people who visit us love what they find!
