Hospitality or Tourism Employers can enrol new and/or existing employees on the University of Cumbria programme to the benefit of the business and employee. The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) has been launched by The University of Cumbria as part of their portfolio of professional higher level and degree apprenticeships.
The course has been set up to address current Hospitality & Tourism industry needs:
- Difficulties in recruitment and retention of supervisors and managerial teams across the sector
- Need for enhanced skills and qualifications that will help retain staff and improve productivity
- Introduce new talent and innovative thinkers to the industry

The University actively work with a number of partners across the sector to enhance research, knowledge transfer and currency of our programmes. Our Head of Business Development is an official observer on Cumbria Tourism board, and is a national council representative on the Tourism Management Institute.
The University work closely with the Cumbria LEP to help shape the sector plan for Tourism and play an active role in the development of skills for the future workforce. Our work on skills and industry development has led us to be Associate Members of the Lake District Hotels Association.
