The tragic loss of life at Grenfell Tower and has recently focused our attention on the issue of holding corporations and organisations to account. But did you know that, deaths caused by corporate crime and negligence overshadow most other categories of homicide? So why aren’t we paying more attention to this?
By looking at real life case studies, our Masterclass will consider diverse crimes committed by corporations. Crimes against consumers, such as unsafe pharmaceuticals, will be considered alongside environmental crimes, namely pollution. We will especially emphasise the impact of disastrous events.
We will ask challenging questions about how we view crime and who commits it. Does society struggle to classify corporations and corporate people as offenders? If so, how can the numbers of lives lost due to corporate crimes and negligence be reduced in future?
This masterclass has been designed for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in criminology.
You will be awarded up to 24 UCAS points** for attending this masterclass.
**16 points will be awarded as standard. An additional 8 points can be claimed if the participant completes a 1500 word self-reflective report, following the event. Details of which will be available on the day.
The reduction will be applied on application and points cannot be redeemed retrospectively, if you have already applied to the University. They can only be redeemed against University of Cumbria courses linked to the masterclass.
