Considering university? Want to know if it’s for you before you commit? How about trying it out first?

Our FREE summer university is the perfect opportunity for you to come and experience university life and studies for real in a fun-filled residential.

You’ll live on campus, attend workshops in the specific subject that you’re interested in studying, and develop skills to smoothly ease you into university life.

It’s a big step for parents too, but there’s no need to worry, because you will be:

  • Safe on our campus, which has 24-hour security
  • Overseen by a member of staff, who are also first aiders
  • Staying in single-sex rooms
  • Gaining life experience - We’ll also be setting you tricky tasks, such as shopping and cooking on a budget!

Eligibility Criteria

Due to the high number of applications that we recieve for these events we need to have criteria in place to enable us to select participants.

Participants must:

  • be predicted to achieve the full entry requirements for the subject of interest - please check our subject webpages for further details
  • have achieved 5 A*- C grades at GCSE as a minimum

Priority will then be given to those from a WP background if applications are high and at least one of the following criteria taken into account:

  • The applicant lives in a household with an annual income of under £25,000
  • The applicant has or does receive free school meals
  • The applicant has previously been in the care of the local authority
  • The applicants primary care giver is not their mother or father
  • Neither of the applicants parents/carers have studied at higher education (degree) level

We will be hosting online event briefings for our Summer University for our successful applicants. These briefings are compulsory for students and their parents/guardians and will be held online 6-7pm on Wednesday 6th June. All event information will be covered in this briefing and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

How to get here


Our Lancaster campus is on the edge of Lancaster city centre. The postcode for satnavs is LA1 3JD.

From the North:

Leaving the M6 at junction 34, take the A683 towards Lancaster/Morecambe. Turn left onto the Lune Valley interchange/A683. Continue slightly left at the next traffic lights onto Caton Road. At the second set of traffic lights turn left and follow the one-way system through the city centre up to Pointer roundabout (just past the Royal Lancaster infirmary). Here, take the first exit onto Bowerham Road. The campus entrance is located on your left. 

From the South:

Leaving the M6 at junction 33, take the A6 to Lancaster (South). At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Lancaster Road/A6. Continue towards the city centre. Turn right onto Barton Road just after the BP garage. Follow this road and continue onto Bowerham Road. Go straight across the mini roundabout and follow Bowerham Road down to the campus entrance, which is on your right hand side.


Lancaster railway station is approximately a 25-minute walk from campus. Taxis are readily available at the station.


There is a regular bus service to and from the city centre which stops outside the campus. Take bus numbers 2, 2A or 4.
