The Psychology of Studying: Exploring Evidence-Based Study Techniques
Throughout the last two centuries, we have seen significant advancements in our understanding of teaching and learning. Many psychologists have helped shape our current educational climate, through the development, evaluation and testing of teaching strategies, study techniques and educational theories.
The aim of this session is to critically explore some of the most popular study techniques used by students today (e.g. highlighting and summarization), in relation to contemporary evidence, educational theory and cognitive science.
Throughout the session, we will discuss several other, lesser known, but often more effective study techniques (e.g., spaced repetition), and how you might incorporate these into your own practice.
