The research report: ‘The Solway Estuary: a socio-cultural evaluation of a coastal energy landscape’, by Darrell Smith, Ian Convery, Valentina Bold and Billy Sinclair will be officially launched this Thursday by Brian Irving from the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

University awards major contract to Cumbria Waste Group
The university has awarded a major new contract to handle the waste it generates to Cumbria’s largest waste management and recycling company. Cumbria Waste Group was successful in a competitive tender to provide a general waste and mixed recycling collection and processing service for the university.

Clearing hotline opens next Thursday!
The University of Cumbria, recently voted second nationally for graduate employability, opens its Clearing hotline on Thursday 18 August to support students as they receive their A-level results. The call centre opens earlier than in previous years, at 6.30am, and our expert call handlers will be able to offer guidance on the availability of courses, eligibility, interviews, course details and other support services.

University students raise money for charity
Integrated Foundation level 3 students from across all of our campuses have been busy over the last few months planning and running an event or social enterprise as part of their 'Routes to Success' module and in the process have raised over £900 for charity along with supporting local schools and community groups.

University of Cumbria among the best for graduate prospects
The university prides itself on preparing its students for the workplace and this report, ‘Destination of Leavers in Higher Education 2014/15’, published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), shows that now 96.9% of the university’s graduates are in full-time employment or further study within six months of receiving their degree, up from 93.4% in 2013/14.

University of Cumbria graduates celebrate with their families and friends
Graduates from the University of Cumbria will celebrate with their families and friends next week, when they will receive their degrees and awards at a ceremony in the magnificent setting of Carlisle Cathedral. At nine ceremonies spread across three days, a total of 1100 students will mark this rite of passage in the presence of their guests.
