£2.4million boost to help more Cumbrians into Higher Education
The University of Cumbria is celebrating after a new consortia it is leading was awarded £2.4 million in Government funding via The Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce) to fund a two year project aimed at encouraging more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to consider taking higher education qualifications.

A sculpture created by Dame Barbara Hepworth has returned to display at the heart of the University of Cumbria’s Lancaster campus after months in store. Winged Figure sits in a new case at the entrance to the refurbished library, which protects the piece while showing it off to advantage. ‘Now everyone can see and enjoy one of the most important pieces in our collection by visiting Lancaster library,’ said Laura Baxter, curator of the university's Vallum Gallery in Carlisle.

Celebrations at the University of Cumbria

In excess of 1,100 students will be receiving their degrees and awards in Carlisle Cathedral throughout three days of ceremonies in front of families, friends and guests, and a final ceremony on Thursday afternoon will witness the inauguration of the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Julie Mennell.

The university has awarded a major new contract to handle the waste it generates to Cumbria’s largest waste management and recycling company. Cumbria Waste Group was successful in a competitive tender to provide a general waste and mixed recycling collection and processing service for the university.

Clearing hotline opens next Thursday!
The University of Cumbria, recently voted second nationally for graduate employability, opens its Clearing hotline on Thursday 18 August to support students as they receive their A-level results. The call centre opens earlier than in previous years, at 6.30am, and our expert call handlers will be able to offer guidance on the availability of courses, eligibility, interviews, course details and other support services.
