'Blue light' event attracts hundreds and creates buzz about emergency service, health and care careers name

Students interested in a career with the emergency services and health and care sector enjoyed the chance to meet professionals at a special event held at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle.

Groups from schools as well as further and higher education enjoyed talks, demonstrations and workshops staged as part of the health care and blue light careers event.

“We were delighted to welcome over 650 school pupils to Fusehill Street to meet and learn more about the emergency services,” Alice Sharples, school and college liaison manager for the University of Cumbria, said. “Visitors were able to meet UoC trained paramedics and police officers and there was a real buzz amongst students and teachers. We’re looking forward to next year already!”

Already well known for providing healthcare and professional policing qualifications, the university has a growing reputation for training paramedics and forensic scientists.

An annual major incident exercise, which draws all emergency services together, is held at the University of Cumbria’s Ambleside campus.
