Emmy award-winning adventure film-maker heads to Carlisle  name

An Emmy award-winning adventure cinematographer will share exciting tales of his life behind a lens when he visits Carlisle this month.

Capturing the essence of adventure in more than 60 extreme films has taken Emmy award-winning cameraman and film-maker Keith Partridge to some of the world’s most hostile and spectacular environments. 

From the Eiger’s North Face, a storm bound winter Arctic, and a toxic fume-filled Indonesian volcano, to hunting with eagles in Mongolia and the white-water caves of Papua New Guinea, Partridge has been pushing the limits of extreme film-making for television and cinema and is highly respected by some of the world’s top mountaineers.

As one of those who helped create Touching the Void, the film-maker, director of photography, author and Professor of Practice at the University of Cumbria will talk about his unique career as an adventure cinematographer.He will also discuss some of the other iconic productions he has helped create during a public lecture entitled ‘Life Behind the Lens: Keith Partridge in conversation’.

It takes place on Thursday 24 January 2019 in the Stanwix Theatre at the university’s Institute of the Arts campus on Brampton Road.

“Touching the Void turned out to be a pivotal film featuring great characters and a great story shot in some extremely challenging conditions,” said Keith, whose many credits include the filming of the multi-award winning series Wild Climbs for BBC2 and the BBC’s iconic Human Planet series.

Recently, he directed and produced the film Bonington: Mountaineer, the life story of Cumbria’s Sir Chris Bonington who is one of the world’s most successful mountaineers.

Michael Mitchell, Principal Lecturer in Media Arts at the University of Cumbria said: “Keith brings priceless experience of working in a professional environment that helps inform and inspire our students. This public lecture provides a unique opportunity to share that knowledge and enthusiasm to a wider audience.”

‘Life Behind the Lens: Keith Partridge in conversation’, takes place in the Stanwix Theatre, University of Cumbria, Brampton Road, Carlisle on Thursday 24 January 2019 starting at 7pm.
