Three student nurses from the University of Cumbria have been shortlisted in the prestigious Student Nursing Times Awards.

Kirsty Rudd’s work has been recognised in the Learning Disabilities category while Steven Shaw is listed in the Mental Health category. Steven, a Student Quality Ambassador from Blackpool, called the nomination a “great honour” adding  “I couldn’t have done it without the help of the tutors and workplace mentors who’ve all been so supportive.”

Meanwhile Zoe Butler from Kendal has been nominated for Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year – her second award nomination in a week! Zoe is already vying for the Andrew Parker Student Nurse Award from the Royal College of Nursing.

“We’re just delighted for the students,” said a delighted Louise Corless, senior lecturer in mental health nursing at the University of Cumbria. “It’s an amazing achievement to have three separate nominations from a small university.”

It’s the sixth year the awards have been held. Organisers say the event – to be held at the London Hilton on April 27th – aims to pay tribute to the students who have demonstrated the academic achievement, clinical prowess and personal qualities that will make them brilliant nurses.
