The new season of student productions at the University of Cumbria’s Stanwix Theatre is now underway. The varied and imaginative programme includes something for everyone; dance, drama, comedy and musical theatre, all designed to showcase the undergraduates’ multi-talented skills.
In addition to the 200-seater Main House Theatre and 80-seater Topping Studio Theatre, a third performance space has just been completed at the Brampton Road campus. The new 80-seat Ashcroft Theatre is now available as a venue for the 90 or more productions staged by the students each year.
Theatre manager Lexie Ward says: “We are thrilled to add the Ashcroft Theatre to our venues here on campus. The feedback from the students has been fantastic and they’ve already been busy rehearsing new productions in the venue.
“The flexibility of the space means that there is a lot of scope for exciting new staging, giving students the chance to further develop their skills for the next chapter of their professional careers after university.”
From Thursday 29 - Saturday 31 October, Stanwix Theatre will be hosting two big musicals; the hilarious and uplifting ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ and the regional premiere of the contemporary darkly comedic ‘Urinetown’ which had its London West End debut last year.
