With sustainability being more important than ever for companies and industry, free events this summer will support managers and future leaders.
Business Sustainability is the focus of the first webinar that the University of Cumbria in London is hosting. The insight series will also explore other issues such as organisational behaviour and HR.
Those seeking to gain a competitive edge can expand their skills and knowledge by registering for free places. Sessions are ideal for practising managers, graduates and career changers.
Vivek Chitran, Business Programme Leader at the University of Cumbria in London, said: “With now being a crucial time for organisations to re-invent and adapt given the uncertain outlook of markets, competitive advantage is seen as a predicator for survival. Given the market dynamics, there is a call for action on a sustainable operational outlook.
“The common understanding of the term is associated with green production. However, when managers are required to consider sustainability issues throughout the entire business process, from product design to end of life and from the supply chain to final customers, these may prove to be more daunting.”
Kenneth Appiah and Sebastian Okafor, lecturers in business at the University of Cumbria in London, present the series.
Sebastian said: “Organisations are facing numerous challenges from multiple forces that impact their operations. Those that do not adapt to these changes may see a detrimental impact on their performance or even go out of business. Organisations need to be able to anticipate the trends and events in a proactive manner. An effective change management is thus important to weather such storms and to realise the benefits to organisations and individuals.”
Dr Karen Hadley, director of the university’s Institute of Business, Industry and Leadership, said: “The recovery period emerging from this pandemic will bring new opportunities for us all to do things differently. Being situated close to the Canary Wharf business district, we are well-placed to support those who are preparing for this and who seek to gain new knowledge and skills to help them identify the challenges and solutions ahead.
“The University of Cumbria works to make a positive social and economic impact on its communities and globally. Our staff and students have been doing this from our campus in East London for almost 30 years, collaborating closely with businesses, education and strategic organisations to achieve this.”
Along with its campus in the capital, the University of Cumbria has bases in north Cumbria, Ambleside in the Lake District, and Lancaster. Five diverse institutes cover education, health, arts, business and leadership, and science, natural resources and outdoor studies. Working closely with employers, the university offers learners a range of flexible learning options including degree apprenticeships, continued professional development courses and evening study routes.
The university has one of the best graduate employability rates in the country and is also ranked highly for its quality of education in the Times Higher Education Global Impact Rankings 2020, the only global performance tables assessing universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
