The programme, BA (Hons) Business, Accounting and Finance, began in late 2016 and has now been endorsed by two prestigious organisations: The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, Dr Padmi Nagirikandalage, is delighted: “These accreditations are not freely offered. We had to prove to them during the accreditation process that we are keeping up a certain level of quality and standard in our courses to gain this recognition.
“We had already received word from ACCA and now gaining CIMA accreditation as well is brilliant news and a significant achievement. These awards are made in recognition of the high academic and professional standards offered by the university on courses that are vital to gaining recognised skills required by employers."
Padmi continues: “To gain both endorsements at this early stage is particularly significant as usually the professional bodies are reluctant to offer many exemptions in the first years of a course, making a partnership with an institution until at least one cohort has completed the course and graduates. And they don’t automatically offer the accreditation to everyone – achieving and then maintaining high standards and quality teaching are essential.”
