University highly ranked for trained teacher numbers.
A survey measuring how many academic staff have a recognised teaching qualification has seen the University of Cumbria ranked 10th out of 130 universities.
The Times Higher Education reports the findings after data collected between 2014 and 2015 and released by the Higher Education Funding Council for England was analysed by the Higher Education Statistics Agency.
Of 435 teaching staff at Cumbria, just over three quarters (76%) had a qualification putting the university in the top ten.
“At Cumbria we’re keen to ensure students enjoy the best possible experience from staff who have both professional experience along with a recognised teaching qualification,” University of Cumbria vice chancellor Professor Julie Mennell said. “This ensures they can support and inspire our students to learn and develop, providing them with the necessary skills, confidence and attributes to succee.”
The proportion of academic staff at other institutions with a teaching qualification varied from 90% to none.
