University of Cumbria is in the Top 10 for developing business leaders name

A new study, involving 10 million graduates on professional networking site LinkedIn, has rated University of Cumbria as being in the Top 10 for developing business leaders and 14th overall in the Top 50 universities for business.

The Capital on Tap study shows that the university, alongside prestigious institutions such as University of Oxford and London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), is producing a higher percentage of c-suite executives than other UK universities. With many of its alumni going on to hold titles such as CEO, Managing Director, or Executive Director.

This latest report comes on the back of a study in 2020 by Hitachi Capital Invoice Finance which ranked University of Cumbria as third in the north for students going on to start or manage a business.

In 2020, the university was also ranked as amongst the best in the UK for graduate employment and top in the North West with 96% of students getting a job or going on to further study within 15 months of graduating. It was also ranked 1st in the UK and top 10 worldwide for the quality of its education in the Times Higher Education Global Impact Rankings 2020.

University of Cumbria Vice Chancellor, Professor Julie Mennell said: “We are delighted to be ranked in the Top 10 for developing business leaders in the latest Capital on Tap study.

“Our Institute for Business, Industry and Leadership includes appointments from industry, as well as academia, and has a strong focus on addressing regional sector needs.

“Our teaching is led by expert practitioners, engaged in research and scholarly activity and at the forefront of their disciplines. We offer flexible learning, work experience and a safe space for critical challenge and experimentation.

“This latest study shows the impact we are having on developing future leaders and I am confident our university will continue to further its impact for our region's economy.”

The study methodology included an analysis of 10,849,900 university graduates on LinkedIn and percentages were taken from the proportion of accounts listed as a graduate from the given university with a corresponding job title such as CEO, Managing Director, Executive Director etc.
