University goes on the road for a summer of festival fun
Staff and students are hitting the road to give people a glimpse of what life is like at the University of Cumbria. The ‘Up and Coming’ interactive roadshow is criss-crossing the north of England and beyond this summer. People have the opportunity to don VR headsets and take virtual tours of campuses and facilities. They can also meet academics who are leading taster sessions and giving a flavour of the learning experiences that await prospective students once courses start after Clearing.

New term for tomorrow’s teachers
Aspiring teachers have started their studies with University of Cumbria. In line with latest coronavirus guidance, many of the mature students are enjoying face-to-face sessions with tutors on campus while the university’s annual induction programme for them has moved largely online Reflecting a national upturn, it comes as University of Cumbria has witnessed an increase of almost 14 per cent in the number of teacher training applications it has received so far this year.

Unmasked: Students stage 2021 creative showcase
A brand new exhibition from the University of Cumbria Institute of the Arts is showcasing the creativity and talents of more than 200 artists. Launching on Tuesday 1 June, Unmasked: IoA Degree Show 2021 represents the work of students who are graduating this summer. There will also be a presence in Carlisle city centre, operated in line with government guidance.

Clearing 2020 goes virtual at University of Cumbria
Future students should look no further as the annual process of Clearing to secure a place at university this autumn begins next week. University of Cumbria has a dedicated team on hand from 9am on Monday (6 July) to help anyone who is interested in starting university this year. A new downloadable guide with everything you need to know about Clearing has also been produced, including details of Clearing Plus – a new system helping to match applicants with universities.

Success for Cumbria’s university students at D&AD New Blood 2020
Three new University of Cumbria graduates are celebrating after scooping accolades in a series of influential industry awards that recognise young and emerging creative talent. Graphic design graduates Tim Stewart and Jacob Towle are among the winners of the 2020 D&AD New Blood Awards and illustrator Ed Merlin Murray is 'One to Watch' according to the charity which inspires and celebrates excellence in design and advertising.

Photographer gains degree with his autobiographical picture portrayal of life with a disability
Photography graduate Jordan Mossom has praised University of Cumbria for supporting him to study for and gain a degree while living with a rare muscle-wasting condition. Growing up with a passion for photography, Jordan did not think university would be an option open to him. He's now a proud member of University of Cumbria’s Class of 2020, successfully completing his degree this summer and seeing his work recognised by an international photography magazine.

"University’s the best thing we’ve ever done!” - mature students’ message to those considering a career change
Life is taking a new direction for mature students Zoe Lyons and Ed Merlin Murray, who have successfully achieved University of Cumbria degrees. Now members of its Class of 2020, both Zoe and Ed joined University of Cumbria as first-time undergraduates two decades after their schooldays had ended.
