Double success for prize winner Paul

There was cause for a double celebration for Paul Morton who not only joined 20 colleagues graduating from the University of Cumbria’s law department but was awarded a prestigious prize. Paul received the law undergraduate student of the year prize in recognition of his achievements during a demanding but rewarding course, ranked first in the north west of England.

Inaugural Woodland Trust prize presented to East Sussex star student

There was an extra reason for celebration for forestry student Ben Crisford who as well as graduating from the University of Cumbria’s National School of Forestry was the first recipient of a new prize awarded by the Woodland Trust. The student, from Heathfield in East Sussex, was awarded the inaugural prize which recognises the best overall grade on BSc (Hons) Woodland Ecology and Conservation with and without placement.

Outstanding response to university 1000-mile bus tour

Students from the University of Cumbria will be over 450 miles into a 1000-mile tour of Northern England and Ireland by the end of this week, helping people to find their place at university. So far, students have taken over 450 enquiries from people looking to start university this year or next. Students have spoken to people from such far off places as Colombia and one individual is known to have travelled 105 miles from his home in Dublin to visit the bus in Belfast just to get some advice.

One of Cumbria’s most senior police officers has joined the ranks of 1,000 graduands. Assistant Chief Constable Andrew Slattery accepted his Master of Science award at Carlisle Cathedral after completing his MSc in Strategic Policing, picking up his scroll 29 years after gaining a degree in sociology.

Cumbria law student wins prestigious national award

University of Cumbria law student Elizabeth Park (Liz) has been awarded a prestigious national prize. Liz, 35, is one of only five students in the country to receive the Neuberger Prize from The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, one of the four Inns of Court in London and a leading centre for the training and development of student and qualified barristers in the UK. The prize is awarded in recognition of her outstanding work during her studies on the university's LLB (Hons) Law course.

A national effort to recruit 20,000 additional police officers by 2023 is being supported by the University of Cumbria and a special public sector partnership. University of Cumbria and three other institutions are delivering Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships and Degree Holder Entry Programmes to new recruits joining three forces across south east England – Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire.

International partners congratulate Cumbria on top 10 world ranking for making positive impact towards Global Goals

The University of Cumbria’s quality education has been ranked in the top ten of universities worldwide, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, the only global performance tables that assess universities’ impact against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Many of the university's international partners have stepped forward to congratulate the institution on its achievements against the SDGs, which are also known as the 17 Global Goals.
