University of Cumbria and Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors present a Musical Journey

The University of Cumbria and Cartmell Shepherd are joining musical forces to present an evening of music and entertainment. The university’s acapella choir, Voces UoC will perform alongside the long-established Cartmell Shepherd Community Choir led by Lyn Young and accompanied by Nicholas Butters. They will be joined by special guests, internationally renowned opera singers, Professor Graeme Danby and Professor Valerie Reid in a concert created to raise funds for the Eden Valley Hospice and Jig

Specialist 'dance and health' therapy for stroke patients to be showcased

A project which sees stroke patients offered weekly dance and movement sessions as part of their rehabilitation delivered by staff and students from the University of Cumbria is being showcased at a prestigious London arts event. The project also offers an opportunity for University of Cumbria dance and occupational therapy students to experience work in the dance and health sector by training and volunteering for the sessions.

Performing arts graduates set to make thought-provoking Carlisle Fringe debut

To devise a theatre production in a matter of weeks is impressive. To create the set, source the props, design and make costumes, plan lighting, arrange the sound as well publicise and market it sounds impossible. Especially as the show will be staged under canvas in the middle of Carlisle city centre next week. However that is what performing arts students from the University of Cumbria have achieved as part of the forthcoming Carlisle Fringe.

Inclusive dance show for younger audience gains high acclaim at Edinburgh Festival

A dance show aimed at pre-school children has won a prestigious ‘Three Weeks Editors’ award’ at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Four go Wild in Wellies is a playful look at how friendships are built, broken and mended and features tents that have a life of their own, bobble hats, and lots of fun in wellies. The show was choreographed by Stevie Prickett, Senior Lecturer in Dance and Physical Theatre at the University of Cumbria.

West End hit musical sees new star in miniature

A smash hit musical has a pocket-sized star at London’s Apollo Theatre courtesy of a University of Cumbria performing arts graduate. Crowds flocking to Shaftesbury Avenue to see award-winning Everybody’s Talking About Jamie could meet-up with a celebrity doll depicting the show’s lead. The brainchild of Stee Leahy, 26, who worked his Jamie lookalike from a 16inch Barbie-type doll, the model has brought widespread acclaim and clamours for copies.

Best friends Aimee McCallum and Lauren Wilson will spend a month immersed in and working at the world-famous Venice Biennale when it takes place later this year. The fine art students have been awarded Venice Fellowships by the British Council. Held in one of the world’s most romantic and architecturally important cities, the Venice Biennale has a history stretching back more than 120 years and is recognised as one of the world’s most important artistic events.

Proceeds from the evening will help Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice and Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club.

University of Cumbria hosts nationally acclaimed contemporary dance workshop for artists and practitioners

Three figures from a contemporary dance company that won national acclaim for its inclusive routine featuring disabled dancers on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing are heading to the University of Cumbria. The university’s Institute of the Arts is hosting the AVS Take More Space Dance Lab in Brampton Road, Carlisle over the weekend of 15 and 16 June 2019.

150 university artists to host one of Cumbria’s largest exhibitions of up and coming talent

One of the largest events of its kind in the region will see a university campus transformed by 150 artists. The University of Cumbria’s Institute of the Arts will host its annual Summer Degree Show between 1-8 June. The event is the culmination of final-year degree students’ hard work whilst studying at the Brampton Road campus in Stanwix, Carlisle.

At the age of 21, entrepreneur Laura Devaney is getting ahead in business thanks to her arts degree – gained 30 years after her mother completed her studies at the same campus. Laura runs two new businesses with her partner Cameron Martin, who is also a member of the University of Cumbria’s alumni association, giving the night-time economy in Carlisle a welcome boost.

Launching on Tuesday 1 June, Unmasked: IoA Degree Show 2021 represents the work of students who are graduating this summer. Cumbria launches new website showcasing talents of more than 120 artists 

2020Vision is a virtual gallery giving University of Cumbria arts graduates a clear platform to show off their skills developed over the last three years. The university’s Brampton Road campus in Carlisle - a creative arts campus for 70 years - is usually transformed each summer by its talented students completing an array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  Coronavirus lockdown restrictions mean that this year's celebration has moved online for the first time.
