University’s new degree apprenticeship to develop leadership in the NHS

The University of Cumbria is extending its education and training for health and care professionals in a new partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy and Health Education England. From April, the University of Cumbria will be one of only two UK universities providing a Project Management Degree Apprenticeship contextualised to Health, supporting the leadership objectives of the overarching NHS Long Term plan to create a health service fit for the future.

Call to North West business leaders and networks to support new student society

Led by and for students, the University of Cumbria Business Society launches this month to help upcoming graduates connect with employers and business networks. UoC Business Society figures want to develop a vibrant relationship with business leaders, helping to shape students’ learning experience and offering real-world support and guidance alongside academic business management study. It also wants help employers, organisations and business leaders to engage and inspire future professionals.

Apprenticeship Week 2021: New apprenticeship promises paramedic career to existing ambulance staff

Despite the ongoing challenges posed by COVID, seven English ambulance trusts and one university have persisted in their vision to offer the first paramedic apprenticeship across England. The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science (Apprenticeship) Degree was devised by the University of Cumbria and will take just two years to complete, compared to three for a traditional degree in paramedic science.

National Apprenticeship Week 2021: University partnership helping police train new recruits

A national effort to recruit 20,000 additional police officers by 2023 is being supported by the University of Cumbria and a special public sector partnership. University of Cumbria and three other institutions are delivering Police Constable Degree Apprenticeships and Degree Holder Entry Programmes to new recruits joining three forces across south east England – Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire.

University of Cumbria help as UCAS application deadline approaches

With additional time granted this month to students and their teachers and advisers to submit university applications, University of Cumbria is offering support to those thinking about starting a degree in 2021. The university’s outreach and recruitment experts are holding informal support sessions online for potential applicants and those seeking help. The next one is on Wednesday 27 January, 2-3pm. A dedicated applicant advice service is also running 9am-5pm daily.

Cumbria's university refreshes retired healthcare professionals' clinical skills to expand pool able to give vaccination

In a drive to do their bit during the pandemic, the University of Cumbria offered healthcare staff in the north of the county refresher training in administering the Covid-19 vaccination. The rapidly devised programme, trained 40 healthcare staff so far, revising their clinical skills in administering the vaccination but also spotting the signs of anaphylactic shock and basic life support.
