Blackburn College is a large FE College providing a wide range of programmes including a large HE portfolio. Established for over 125 years, it is the largest provider of education in Pennine Lancashire. The college has a dedicated University Centre which opened in 2009.
Brathay Trust is a charity located near Ambleside in the Lake District. Founded in 1946 the trust delivers a broad portfolio of programmes nationally which range from community-based youth work to outdoor-learning experiences delivered at their three residential centres in the Lake District.
The University of Cumbria works with Brathay Trust on the Aspiring Leaders Programme, which aims to engender a step-change in the leadership capability of the charity sector in Cumbria. Through the programme, young adults achieve a foundation degree in Professional Practice for Business, receive leadership development training, and benefit from 1:1 mentoring support from a Cumbrian business leader.
Bury College is a large FE College providing a wide range of qualifications from A levels and vocational programmes through to Higher Education and Degree level. The college has recently opened a University Centre designed to meet the needs of university students. The £4.3m centre contains state of the art facilities that enhances the quality of the teaching and learning experience and includes: lecture rooms, conference facilities, IT suites and a student social and learning zone.
Cumbria Christian Learning
Cumbria Christian Learning exists to address a broad range of learning and training needs for the Diocese of Carlisle, the Cumbria Methodist District and the United Reformed Church in Cumbria. This includes initial ministerial education and post-ordination education for Anglican Readers and Clergy. The partnership with the University of Cumbria builds upon a longstanding relationship with legacy institutions to enable the delivery of programmes and modules which address national framework requirements but are also tailored to serve the strategic needs and context of the Cumbrian Church.
Furness College is an FE College based in Barrow-in-Furness. It is the largest provider of education and training in South Cumbria and offers a range of HE provision, including HNC, Foundation Degree and full Honours Degrees. The college provides a high quality educational experience and a wide choice of vocational routes into higher education.
Gen 2 is private education provider based in Workington, Cumbria. It was established in June 2000 by five partner companies; Sellafield Ltd, Tata Steel Europe (formerly Corus), Amec, Iggesund Paperboard and Innovia Films. Gen 2 is the largest provider of training to the Civil Nuclear Sector in the UK and work closely with the local business community and major employers to develop new skills and qualifications for those joining the industry, as well as re-skilling of the present workforce.
Kendal College is an FE College situated on the edge of the Lake District and is the leading training provider in the South Lakes. The College specialises in Further and Higher Education, as well as training for businesses at all levels, including apprenticeships and NVQ training and bespoke business training.
Lakes College is an FE College based in Workington, Cumbria. The college delivers FE and HE provision to students on its campus as well as delivering training to local businesses. Lakes College has been delivering higher education courses for over 25 years, offering over 25 HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees such as Business Management, Health and Social Care and Nuclear Decommissioning.
Nelson and Colne College
Nelson and Colne College is an FE College located in East Lancashire. The College has 1,800 full-time and 3,500 part-time students and more than 600 Apprenticeships. In January 2017, the College launched a new University Centre, building on its outstanding reputation for teaching and learning to offer a range of Higher Education Programmes.
Northumberland College is an FE College and is the largest provider of FE provision in Northumberland. Its main campuses are in Ashington and Kirkley Hall and has centres at Hexham and Berwick. The Ashington campus was opened in 1957 and is home to a wide range of subjects housed in specialist facilities including art and design, construction, engineering, sport, hospitality and beauty therapy. Kirkley Hall campus, in Ponteland, has a long established history as the main provider of land-based education and training in the region for over 50 years.
Southport College is an FEC College providing a range of FE and HE in Merseyside. The College has a town-centre campus with a dedicated University Centre for its higher education students. Through partnerships with local and national businesses the College has become one of the largest providers of Apprenticeships in the region.
The University of Cumbria is one of the country’s leading providers of teacher education and one of the largest providers of School Direct. School Direct is a new initiative by the Government which enables postgraduates to undertake the majority of their initial teacher training based in a school. The University is working with about 30 School Direct partnerships nationwide, providing just under 900 teacher training places in primary and secondary schools. All schools working with the University of Cumbria offer a PGCE qualification.
