About Our School
Darwen Aldridge Community Academy is an independent, non fee-paying school jointly funded by our sponsor, the Aldridge Foundation and the Department of Education. We were the first Aldridge Academy in what is now a national family of academies.
The main aim of the academy is to provide the highest quality of education for students in the main school from Year 7 to 11 and in the Sixth Form. In our first five years, we have seen year on year improvements in levels of student attainment and have been recognised by the DfE as one of the most improved schools in the country.
In January 2013 Ofsted visited the academy and graded us as a good school in every respect, with exceptional completion and employment rates. A number of outstanding features were highlighted. We are aiming to move from good to outstanding. The academy is more than a successful new type of school. It offers facilities and learning opportunities for engaging with the wider community, including the local business community.
We're part of the Blackburn with Darwen School Direct Partnership, which is made up of a range of successful and developing schools, offering employment and early leadership opportunities. All of our partner schools have been rated good or outstanding by Ofsted and have a shared outlook on successful education.
