We have fourteen strategic partners from Primary and Secondary Schools in South Cumbria. The wide range of contexts and specialisms across our Teaching School Alliance is a real strength; which means we can provide the best learning opportunities and experiences for our student teachers. Sharing our knowledge, experience and talent through training and support at all levels while instilling an enjoyment and enthusiasm for teaching. We are committed to supporting our student teachers to help them become the best they can be.
Why Study With Us?
Yarlside Teaching School Alliance are pleased to be working in partnership with the University of Cumbria to offer a School Direct non-salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme. Our ITT programme lasts for the academic year and leads to the award of Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Our training is based on the skills employers are looking for in a newly qualified teacher (NQT).
Yarlside Teaching School Alliance (YTSA) School Direct will recruit you and will organise School Embedded Learning experiences for you as well as organising your three assessed placements. The teaching of your modules will be provided by the University of Cumbria (UoC) and will take place at the Bowerham Road campus in Lancaster. You will have 2 days per week of School Embedded Learning (when not on assessed placement) which will take place within our strategic partner schools in the Barrow and Furness area.
We are very fortunate to have excellent partners within our Teaching School Alliance from a wide range of schools. This will give you the valuable opportunity to learn from being in a classroom environment and to make connections between your experience and your taught module content. You will also have an enrichment week (linked to the High Quality Learning and Teaching module) in the spring.
As your training comes to an end we will guide you through the job submission and interview process by arranging mock interviews with experienced Head Teachers.
