PGCE Secondary English with QTS, class of 2015
After completing her undergraduate degree, Jessica set her sights on fulfilling a lifelong ambition. "I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I’d already earned my BA (hons) English and I wanted to share my passion for the subject with others. The thing I liked the most about my course was the support from tutors and the ability to work in schools to gain hands on experience.",
It wasn't just the academic side of things though. "My favourite experience at the university was meeting and working with fellow trainees. We could share ideas, learn lots and have a good laugh. Coming to university changed my life because it gave me more independence and continued to fuel my love of learning. It helped me to gain the right and best qualifications for my dream job of teaching."
After completing the PGCE, Jessica landed a role as an English teacher at St Bernard's Catholic High School. "The most satisfying parts of my job is the moment when the topic suddenly clicks in the student's mind, especially when they’ve worked so hard, and when students enjoy my lessons, thanking me as they leave the classroom. My career ambitions were to teach English in a secondary school and to develop a love of learning in my students. I am currently two terms into my NQT year, and with one term left to go, things are going well, I have my dream job and I have achieved my ambitions.
My current career ambitions are to pass my NQT year but in the future, I would like to try being a head or second of department. I would also like to teach abroad once I have more experience under my belt!"
