Welcome to your course

Welcome to all part-time and full time students studying on the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy.

The Occupational Therapy programme teams at both the Lancaster and Carlisle campus would like to offer you all a very warm welcome to the Occupational Therapy programme here at the University of Cumbria. This will be the start of a new, exciting and rewarding professional career.

Within your course of study you will have the opportunity to develop your core skills as an Occupational Therapist, study the theory of which both underpins and enhances your practice, and have the opportunity to both relate and apply theory to practice within varying contexts of clinical practice.

During Welcome Week you will have the opportunity to meet both your peers, academic staff and programme team who you will be meeting and working with you throughout the course of your studies. You will be introduced to both the Occupational Therapy programme and the wider context of the University. Please refer to the Welcome Week timetable for more details. Please note that both full and part time students will be required to attend all sessions within Welcome Week.

Pre-course Preparation

We have attached an Anatomy workbook which we hope you will find helpful in preparation for your year one study.

Please also find below the recommended book / reading list.

These core books will assist you throughout your course of study together with books that you may wish to purchase or access through the University library.

Students are provided with reading lists for each module, they may wish to purchase additional Occupational therapy and related books once they start their programme of study. Students are also able to access books, journals, eBooks and other eresources from Library services.

In addition all students are advised to keep up-to-date with health and social care issues via daily news websites and newspapers.
