Welcome to your course

Welcome to the MA Social Work at the University of Cumbria. Here at Cumbria you will be working within an innovative, wide-ranging and challenging Master’s programme, alongside a dedicated and experienced team of lecturing staff. We are looking forward to meeting you all, and very much hope that you enjoy your path to becoming confident, enthused and highly-skilled Social Workers.

Welcome Week

Welcome week is an opportunity for you to settle in to the programme: you will be meeting your fellow students on both the MA and BA (Hons) programme, finding out about the full range of resources and opportunities that the Fusehill St. Campus provides, and getting to know the programme team who will be guiding you through your MA degree.

Pre-course Preparation

The best way to prepare for the course is to keep reading: look at the news and other media outlets for events relevant to social work; any specific cases under the media spotlight; any changes in policy or law that might be relevant to your future practice, and so on. The programme has a strong emphasis on applying theory into practice, and a good knowledge of current events, and a range of real-world examples, is very beneficial to this.
