Welcome to your course

Congratulations on obtaining a place on the BA/DipHE in Creative Writing for September. This is a popular programme and you will join a lively and friendly academic community based at our Brampton Road Arts campus in Carlisle.

We aim to inspire and support our students and we hope that you will enjoy your time with us to the full and make the most of the opportunities we offer. One of our most important resources is our beautiful location and during the course of your degree there will be opportunities to visit important locations within the English Lake District which have inspired writers. We also encourage you to engage with the vibrant contemporary writing scene within the region.  This is a very exciting time to join our academic community as in addition to high quality teaching we now offer many opportunities to help you to enhance your personal profile, and gain valuable experience to help prepare you for the workplace.

Welcome week

This is the week before formal teaching commences on your programme and it is an important opportunity to familiarise yourself with the campus, get to know your tutors, and begin to prepare yourself for your studies. We have a range of activities organised this week which are designed to help you to settle in, meet your fellow students, and give you the best possible start to your experience of being a student here at Cumbria.
