Welcome to your course
Hello and welcome to Sport Rehabilitation in the Department of Medical and Sport Sciences at the University of Cumbria. My name is Dr Katie Small (Programme Leader for Sport Rehabilitation) and I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about our department and the opportunities available to you when you join our university.
We deliver courses in Sport Rehabilitation, Sport & Exercise Science and Sport Coaching & Physical Education on our Lancaster Campus. We pride ourselves on the quality of the teaching and learning we provide for our students. We are a small, friendly and caring University which means that you will get to know everyone very quickly and gain the support you need to succeed. You, as an individual, will be our primary focus as we seek to enhance your education and employability prospects. You will get excellent access to tutors, facilities and learning support for example the modules in Sports Massage and Musculoskeletal Injuries & Assessment allow you to access to our Sport Rehabilitation Clinic regularly, enabling you to develop key vocational skills.
Throughout your study you will learn about sports and exercise based injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, as well as sports massage therapy, to ensure the highest standard of healthcare for the physically active. You will develop a theoretical understanding of these areas before implementing practical applications in class as well as on vocational placements, such as sports injury clinics, sports clubs, and health & fitness centres.
During welcome week we’ll be welcoming you to the University and giving you the chance to learn more about your course and the services and facilities provided at the University. You can also sign up for sports, clubs and societies and attend Students' Union events. We will be putting on additional events, tasks and games to help you get to know your peers.
