Which courses are you involved in delivering?

I am the Principal Lecturer for Tourism Management and the Visitor Economy based at Ambleside. I manage the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the subject area. These courses include:

  • PG Cert Tourism Management
  • PG Dip Tourism Management
  • MBA Tourism Management

 

What do you think the University of Cumbria offers in your area of expertise that makes us stand out?

Our programmes are delivered at our Ambleside Campus in the Heart of the Lake District. Not only is this a premier tourism destination, but it is a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All of our programmes are delivered by experts in their field, with class sessions supplemented by industry speakers and site visits to organisations that demonstrate best practice in their sector.

Part of the team delivering the MBA in Tourism Management and Hotel General Management award. I am responsible for the module in Sustainable Supply Chain Management

 

If you could give one piece of advice to those who are just starting out, choosing to change or progress in their careers, what would it be?

Always aim as high as you can but also learn to cope sensibly with disappointment – sometimes you will get what you want, sometimes not.

 

What do you think the University of Cumbria offers in your area of expertise that makes us stand out?

I have been impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of the University particularly insofar as it is directed to serving the local community and creating opportunities for employment oriented learning.

Our Tourism Partners

The University actively work with a number of partners across the sector to enhance research, knowledge transfer and currency of our programmes. The University are Strategic Partners of Cumbria Tourism working closely on product development, business support and skills development.


The University work closely with the Cumbria LEP to help shape the sector plan for Tourism and play an active role in the development of skills for the future workforce. Our work on skills and industry development has led us to be Associate Members of the Lake District Hotels Association.


Our innovation and knowledge transfer programmes are currently working with a range of business to promote innovation in products, services or solutions to foster economic growth.
